So last week we gave you 4 corona-friendly date night ideas and hopefully you remember (or maybe not depending on if you had a little too much fun) that the last but certainly not least of those was ‘For The Functional Alcoholics’. This date night involved getting a whole bunch of alcohol, mixers, fruit, you name it, and having yourself a good old-fashioned bartending off! Well, in case you were struggling and thinking where the hell do I even start, this week I teamed up with my boyfriend who happens to be a fantastic mixologist to come up with 5 desi inspired cocktails sure to lighten up any evening.

  1. Mosambi Mojito

This super-simple drink with a Mosambi twist incorporates one of my all-time favorite spirits that every Desi household (who drinks) cherishes- Old Monk. For those of you that don’t know Old Monk is an incredibly inexpensive delicious vanilla rum generally paired with Coca-Cola for the perfect slightly sweet yet warming drink. Here we combine the citrus of Mosambi with the rich flavors of the rum to create a drink that genuinely feels like a hug on a warm summer day.

Ingredients

- 10 fresh mint leaves

- ½ lime, cut into 4 wedges

- 1 ounce lime juice

- 2-3 ounce mosambi juice

- ½ mosambi, cut into 4 wedges

- 1 ounce simple syrup

- 2 ounces Old Monk

- Club soda

Directions:

  1. Add five mint leaves into the shaker with simple syrup, lime juice, mosambi wedges, and muddle. Add the rum and the juice and shake well with ice.

  2. Pour soda into the shaker and strain the cocktail into a high ball over a tall ice cube.

  3. Garnish with remaining mint leaves and a mosambi slice.

2. Guava Margarita

Every brown kid remembers their mom serving them chunks of sweet guava sprinkled in salt and chili powder at exactly 4 o’clock and chowing down while watching their parents sip on a steaming hot cup of chai. That immediate almost sugary taste of a perfectly ripe guava followed by the sour spicy flavors of the salt and chili was almost addicting. Imagine that flavor profile and add everyone's favorite party starter tequila and you’ve got yourself a winner.

Ingredients:

- 1 guava slice, lightly coated with red chili powder

- 1 ounce orange liqueur

- 1 ounce lime juice

- 3-4 ounces guava juice

- 2 ounces tequila

Directions:

Rub a lime wedge on the rim of the old fashioned glass and coat it with a mixture of salt and red chili powder. Add all the ingredients to the shaker and shake with a big ice cube to get it as cold as possible. Pour the drink into the glass and garnish with the guava slice.

Bonus: Blend all the ingredients with a lot of ice to make a frozen margarita.

3. Achari Aam Margarita

Everyone knows mango season is every brown household's favorite time of the year. Getting a crate of Alfonso mangoes delivered to your door and impatiently waiting to smell that oh so familiar scent as they start to ripen is still one of the highlights of my ‘spring’ season. Now combine the almost buttery taste of a mango the tang of tamarind and just a hint of spice with the achar and enjoy one of the most well-rounded drinks around.
